for the last few weeks i’ve been working on a clip for melbourne band cuba is japan. they make sorta soundtracky, interesting music. it’s really great stuff to work with visually… it’s great stuff in general. i’ll put a video sample up once my internet is dethrottled. it’s a fun project to have been working on too. broken into three sections, the clip starts with bugs coming out of cocoons, continues with bugs flying and ends with bugs dying. my job was the begining and end with the flying bit in the middle being animated by another robert elsewhere in australia. it’s all being pieced together by various animators, illustrators, director/producer/editors and new zealanders via the wonders of the internet… and snail mail. when i post a video about this i’ll put up a run down of everyone involved and their particular claims to awesomeness.

i discovered this awesome plastic model camera kit a few weeks ago. after two weeks of waiting for it to ship, two hours to put together, two days to take photos to fill up the roll and another two days to wait for it to process, i now have twenty four beautifully grainy photos.
my original plan was to modify the camera to allow infinitely long shutter speeds and also to allow for multiple exposures but cameras inner-workings turned out to be more complicated than i expected so i i’ve resigned myself to the creativity inspiring limitations of point and click. pics post jump. i’m in the preparation/experimentation stages for an animation shoot and for this one i’m trying something a bit different. rather than creating paper props and such, i’m planning to project a background on to a white set. from traipsing across the internet i’ve found some really amazing examples of this technique so i thought i’d throw them up here for you to enjoy.
